Each year, students are supported by GeoHab to attend its conference. This support is in the form of a small stipend to cover travel costs and conference registration fees. Each recipient will have to give an oral presentation as a first author at the conference.
While these scholarships are open to any student registered at the time of the application, priority will be given to full-time students and to students who are attending academic/research institutions from the region of the previous conference (USA). Each application will be considered on a case -by-case basis.
The objective of GeoHab’s student support is to expose students interested in marine geological and biological habitat mapping and marine benthic habitat characterization to the community of seafloor mappers and other scientists actively investigating seafloor morphology and substrate associated with ecosystems. Those applying for this support are encouraged to become active member s of the GeoHab community and to support the organization in the future.
To apply, a student should be actively enrolled as a final -year undergraduate or a graduate student studying for a Masters or PhD degree. An abstract of the talk to be presented at the conference needs to be included (note: the student must be the first author of the abstract) in the application, as well as a short CV (2 pages max), a short text (1 page max) outlining why you want to attend the conference and what you hope to gain from your attendance , and a letter of support from an advisor/supervisor. Although it will not necessarily impact the evaluation by the committee, we encourage the advisor to indicate whether attendance of the student to the conference would still be possible if the
award is not received.
Instructions to applicants:

You will need to include a cost estimate of your airfare as determined by the availability of low -cost economy fares and ground transportation to the conference venue (Valletta, Malta), for the specific GeoHab week considering the participation in the first day of the conference and in the field trip (i.e., from Sunday, May 10th to Saturday, May 16th, 2026).
